Privacy Policy

1. Our Core Privacy Philosophy

At Clippio, we believe that your clipboard data is deeply personal and sensitive. It may contain private messages, code snippets, financial details, or login tokens.

Clippio is designed from the ground up as an offline-first native macOS application. We do not operate remote clipboard storage servers, cloud synchronization backends, or behavioral analytics infrastructure.

2. Information Processed Locally on Your Device

When you use Clippio, the application reads the macOS system clipboard to provide search, previews, and history retrieval. This data includes:

• Plain text, rich formatted text, HTML, and code blocks copied by you
• Image snapshots and screenshots copied to the clipboard
• File reference paths copied via Finder
• Custom snippets and expansion templates you create

Where is this data stored? All clipboard records are saved exclusively in a local SQLite database located within your macOS user Application Support directory on your personal Mac. This data is never transmitted to us or any third party.

3. macOS System Permissions

To provide its core functionality, Clippio requests standard macOS permissions:

• Accessibility Permission: Required by macOS so Clippio can automatically paste your selected clip directly into the active foreground window when you press Return.
• Apple Vision OCR: Optical Character Recognition is computed 100% on-device using Apple’s built-in Vision framework with Apple Silicon / Intel hardware acceleration. No image data is sent over the internet for OCR processing.

4. Password Managers & Sensitive Apps

Clippio respects system-wide privacy flags (such as org.nspasteboard.ConcealedType) emitted by password managers including 1Password, Bitwarden, KeePassXC, and Apple Keychain to prevent sensitive credentials from being recorded into regular history.

Additionally, you can instantly pause all clipboard recording at any time by pressing ⌥ ⌘ P.

5. Purchases & Merchant of Record

Payments and license key order fulfillments are handled securely by our Merchant of Record, Dodo Payments. When you make a purchase:

• Dodo Payments handles the transaction, invoicing, and tax compliance. We do not receive, store, or have access to your full credit card numbers or financial account details.
• We receive your purchase email address to deliver your software license key and important product update notices.
• License activation performs a minimal HTTPS check to verify license validity and active seat allocations (up to 3 personal Macs). No clipboard contents, text data, or usage logs are ever included in license checks.

6. Data Retention & Full Deletion

You have complete control over your data at all times:

• You can delete individual clips with ⌘ ⌫.
• You can clear all unpinned clipboard history with ⌥ ⌘ ⌫ or via the menu bar.
• Uninstalling Clippio and removing its Application Support directory permanently deletes all stored records from your machine.

7. Changes to This Policy

If we make any updates to this Privacy Policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Any future changes will remain firmly grounded in our 100% offline, local-first clipboard privacy architecture.
